Abstract

Dementia is a neurodegenerative condition that causes a progressive decline in a person's cognitive abilities. Education about dementia and its risk factors has an important role in increasing public understanding of this condition. With increased awareness, individuals can adopt a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of developing dementia. In addition, counseling also helps reduce stigma and discrimination, and provides better social support to individuals with dementia. Early detection of dementia through tests such as the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), albuminuria, Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL), and uric acid is also important. Cognitive tests such as the MMSE are helpful in identifying cognitive problems early, while screening biomarkers such as albuminuria, LDL and uric acid can reveal risk factors associated with dementia. Community service activities involved 52 productive age respondents. Community service activities begin with outreach activities regarding dementia and related risk factors, and are continued with physical and supporting examinations. The results of supporting examinations revealed that no one had dementia, but there were 6 (11.5%) respondents who had elevated LDL, and 1 (1.9%) respondent had hyperuricemia and albuminuria). With early detection, individuals can take more effective preventive measures and initiate appropriate management, thus improving their quality of life. Overall, counseling and early detection of dementia have an important role in preventing, managing and improving the quality of life of individuals affected by dementia.
